The American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) 2025 Annual Meeting is approaching, bringing together a community of those touched by cancer. Scientists, clinicians, healthcare professionals, survivors, patients, and advocates will come together to discuss the latest breakthroughs in cancer science and medicine.
Here’s what you should know about this year’s event at the McCormick Place Convention Center in Chicago, Illinois, April 25-30.
General Topics
Throughout the six-day program, many interesting topics will be featured in educational sessions and methods workshops, plenary sessions, and major symposia. Key themes include a focus on advancements in these areas:
- Diagnostics and therapeutics
- Early detection and interception
- Hematologic malignancies
- Organ site research
- Population sciences
- Prevention research
- Science of cancer disparities
- Technologies and medicines
The AACR 2025 program will be jam-packed with exciting presentations and insightful discussions to attend, so we recommend planning ahead and creating an itinerary that includes the sessions that most closely relate to your interests.

Special Sessions
In addition to the topics listed above, there will also be a handful of forums and special sessions to attend. Themes for these sessions include:
- Joint sessions with AACR and JCA and ASCO
- Advancements in Tumor-Infiltrating Lymphocyte (TIL) and CAR-T therapies
- AI-based biomarkers and digital pathology in precision oncology
- Dietary intervention to improve response to cancer therapy and reduce side effects
- Relevance of biostatistics in preclinical studies and clinical trials
- Promoting societal trust in science and cultivating diversity
Of particular interest, a special three-part session will focus on the chemistry and biology of molecular agents that are (or will soon be) actively investigated as cancer treatment drugs in clinical trials. There will also be sessions with policymakers, academic researchers, patient advocates, cancer survivors, and industry representatives to discuss emerging topics in both science and public policy. The three tracks include science and health policy, regulatory science and policy, and the science of survivorship.
More information on these special sessions can be found in the AACR 2025 event program.
Exhibit Show
Another exciting aspect of AACR 2025 is the Exhibit Show. Event exhibitors will be sharing insights on their technology, products, services, and innovations relating to cancer research. Attendees can connect with exhibitors in their booths within the Exhibit Hall, as well as via Spotlight Theater Sessions, Meeting Rooms, and Coffee Breaks.
The Samba team will be in attendance, and we look forward to seeing familiar faces from Aviva Systems Biology, Alloy Therapeutics, Bioinformatics Solutions, EditCo Bio, FYR Diagnostics, Ramona, and Twist Bioscience. If we’re lucky, we’ll also find representatives from Broad Clinical Labs, iRepertoire, and Stellaromics at the event.
Representatives from major players in the cancer research world will also be exhibiting. Some notable companies include:

Networking Opportunities
In addition to connecting with potential collaborators on the Exhibit Hall floor, attendees may also wish to network at the 2025 AACR Cancer and Biomedical Research Career Fair. Scientists at all career levels interested in roles within academia, government, or industry can connect with cancer and biomedical research organizations looking to hire.
If you’re looking to get out and explore the streets of Chicago while also supporting cancer research initiatives, you may wish to register to participate in the Runners for Research 5K Run/Walk. This event allows AACR members to come together with the local Chicago community over a shared goal of raising awareness and funds for cancer research.
AACR is also committed to promoting the education and training of cancer scientists and clinicians while cultivating a highly skilled, diverse cancer research workforce. Meeting attendees, in all professional stages, can take advantage of opportunities to advance their careers. Their NextGen Stars program allows a handful of early-career scientists to give presentations and grow in visibility, while their Professional Advancement Series provides interactive and engaging professional development opportunities. Other professional development opportunities include workshops, a poster competition, and informal networking hubs targeting rapidly advancing areas of research.
